Scotland prepare at Ravenscraig

Scotland’s national rugby team have spent time this week training at NL Leisure’s Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, in preparation for the 2015 RBS 6 Nations. With wintry weather causing havoc outdoors, the team have benefitted from a full-size synthetic playing surface on which they’ve been practicing skills and fitness drills.

Building up to their RBS Six Nations opener against France in Paris on Saturday 7 February, Scotland stars Stuart Hogg and Mark Bennett spoke exclusively to NL Leisure to reflect on the facility they’ve had access to.

Hogg said: “I think this is by far the best facility we’ve been at, with the running track through the back as well it’s perfect for us rugby boys. Being a back, we love this quick surface and a dry ball, which is ideal.”

Bennett, added: “The Scottish Winter is terrible for trying to throw the ball about, this allows us to have a high quality training session, going into the game feeling ready and prepared.”

Scott Johnson, Scottish Rugby’s Director of Rugby, also gave his thoughts on Ravenscraig as a venue for both young and elite athletes alike.

“There are not enough indoor facilities here in Scotland. If you want to be good at sport, we’ve got to take it more seriously. Arenas like this provide the opportunity for younger players to turn into great older ones.”
