Kick-start your confidence

7-year-old Logan Byrne has attended NL Football at Shotts Leisure Centre since he was at nursery aged just 3 years old.  As a young child Logan would prefer his own company rather than playing with his peers and therefore didn't have many friends.  Like a lot of children he wasn't comfortable in crowded rooms or around noise.

After seeing a flyer at nursery for NL Soccer Schools, Logan’s parents James and Mhairi enrolled him and hoped that it would help him overcome these difficulties.  The noise was an issue to begin with but after a few sessions the coaches fully integrated Logan into the class and he has never looked back.

Attending NL soccer schools has helped Logan to be more outgoing, sociable and interact more with his peers. He has subsequently gained a number a great friendships' and the Soccer school is the highlight of Logan’s week.

Logan’s mother Mhairi said:

“The football coaches are fantastic, I cannot praise them enough.  They are so patient and caring towards all the children and they have a great relationship with them, which as a parent is important.  Logan enjoys attending his football and has even encouraged his younger sister Ruby to start football training, which she did do a few weeks ago.  When Logan started football training he had no football skills what so ever, we have seen a vast improvement.

When asked what football helps him to do, Logan replied:

"Football helps me to listen and have confidence in myself.  It gives me courage to defend and attack and I am able to feel free and do fun work.  Football also helps me to make friends and build on my skills and improve on them.  My football coaches are great.  They make football fun and teach me skills to make me a better team player.  I love football, because you can also play other games in training".

Logan would love to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, Jim Cook, who played professional football in the late 60’s for Hearts, Hibernian and Kilmarnock.

Logan is a prime example of how sport can help to improve social skills, meet new people and keep fit in the process.
