Jogscotland Runners Stories

Gillian McNab

After having my second baby I decided I wanted to get fit and lose the baby weight I had heard about jog Scotland and decided to join I was very nervous, I was joining myself and worried would I be fast enough? Could I run long enough? But I needn't have worried everyone was very friendly, welcoming and encouraging. I started in the beginners 1 group jog leaders were excellent let me set the pace for our run/walk sessions the progression was quick, wasn't long before the length and speed I was running picked up and the jeans sizes went down I felt such achievement I was hooked! Jogleaders were amazing and motivating. At the start of the next block instead of moving to intermediate 1, I  went into intermediate 2 it was a big leap and hard going but I loved it and the jog leaders were a great support pushing me out by comfort zone and it felt great. At the end of this block, I was running 60 mins continuous I couldn't believe it! It was then 1 of the leaders suggested I try a half marathon so I went home and entered the Alloa half marathon! I didn't know what I was letting myself in for it was January 9 weeks until the half marathon the weather was against me, and I soon found out so was my diet. jog Scotland to the rescue! Jog leaders gave me diet advice, recipes, training plans I was so grateful for all their help and expertise, during our weekly sessions the other members were also a great support to me interested in how my Sunday long run had gone then it was here and on my first mothers day as a mum of 2 and 7 weeks before my daughters first birthday I completed my first half marathon I was so proud and couldn't have done it without jog Scotland.

Linda Hone

Hi, my name is Linda Hone, a very recent delighted and surprised recipient of the Chryston Branch of JogScotland Achiever/runner of the Year Award, who would have thought it when I started with the group two years earlier, certainly not me or the rest of my family.

I joined JogScotland at the Iain Nicolson Centre in Chryston in March 2013. I had just turned 58 and had been entered into the ladies 10k in May by my oldest daughter. My challenge was to get involved in some fundraising by running or walking the event for SANDS Scotland.

If I was going to complete the run I knew  had better get some advice on walking or slow jogging round the route as I had never run any further than a few yards just trying to catch a bus.   I found out that JogScotland ran block sessions at the Iain Nicolson Centre, I made some enquiries and enrolled.

I can honestly say that joining the club has been the best decision of my life.

I found in Jog Scotland a group of like-minded, welcoming, friendly people with experienced instructors who could help to cater and train all levels of runners from beginners to experts.  Jog leaders whose only concern is you and what you want out of running.

The camaraderie and support of the JogScotland group encouraged me to keep at it and achieve a reasonable fitness level so that I could complete the charity event successfully.  I enjoyed my first run so much I have continued to run ever since.

I achieved many goals in 2013 and 2014,  I completed 29 x 5km park runs, as well as various other  5km, 10km and 12km runs, my biggest goal was running  3 x  half-marathons  all completed last year, two of which were  one week apart. JogScotland got me where I needed to be for these runs and with the added   bonus of meeting loads of new people and making great new friends, joining the club has been so worthwhile.
