Swinging back into shape

Palacerigpic

Grace Kerr, age 68, has been a member of Palacerigg Golf Club for 20 years. Grace suffers from rheumatoid arthritis which then developed into septic arthritis, a very painful and disabling illness that meant she was hospitalised for 11 weeks and ultimately unable to play golf for nearly a year and a half. This was a huge blow to Grace who would play golf and socialise at Palacerigg Golf Course most days.

After a long and painful break from her passion and hobby Grace eventually came back to play around mid-summer this year. Initially she could only manage to play a few holes but as she regained her strength she would then play 9 holes and now she is back to playing the full course.

Grace now has resumed playing at Palacerigg approximately 3-4 times per week, weather permitting – when she joined she was known to play almost every day, and at one point the previous starter calculated she was only paying a few pennies per round when average out against the cost of her season ticket.

Grace and her husband Bill have been proud members of Palacerigg for 20 years now and they both feel the course is very scenic and picturesque and that it is a enjoyable and challenging course to play. Grace knew a handful of people who played at Palacerigg before joining but since then she has met a lot of people and has extended her social circle quite considerably.

Grace explained that Golf is a great activity to get into for people of all ages as it helps to keep you active and the social aspect is great for meeting new people. Grace went on to describe how it can be an excellent activity to help you recover from an injury due to its low impact nature.
