Tennis good news story

The success of NL Leisure’s Tennis Academy cannot be denied as the programme continuously produces talented players who consistently showcase impressive skills on the court.

The Tennis Academy is a specifically designed programme for children aged 3 years old to adults. This programme allows tennis goers to learn the crucial elements of tennis and how to play a dynamic game on the court. Since the programme launched, it has been very successful in producing quality players.

Over the past few weeks, NL Leisure’s tennis development officer Grant Shearer introduced a tennis development squad and selected five boys from the Ravenscraig programme who have excelled in their game.

Aidan Smith, Ben Johnston, Paul Murphy, John Cunningham and Athul Manjunatha were the lucky boys selected and they were entered into the West of Scotland Tennis Leagues at the under 16’s level.

The boys have been pulling out all the stops in their recent matches with the newly formed development Squad. They gave a stand out performance at Titwood Tennis Club in Glasgow, where they were hitting out excellent shots right, left and centre. Although they were narrowly defeated they proved to be a formidable force on the court.

The boys have just a few matches to go in the next few summer months but have done incredibly well for their first season. There is no doubt these boys are future stars and will be following in the footsteps of Andy Murray.

NL Leisure’s Tennis Development Officer Grant Shearer has been ecstatic at the boy’s development and performance in the league. Grant said “We are delighted to have introduced an Under 16’s development squad to our tennis programme. This is something that we are looking to introduce at all age groups to increase the opportunities that are available to all of the players in our programme to compete against other tennis clubs in the West of Scotland tennis leagues.  The boys have played really well in their first two matches which is a reflection on the great work our tennis coaches have been doing within our Tennis Academy sessions. “

Good Luck boys for the rest of the season!
