Origin Fitness Blog Part 1

We’ve teamed up with our friends at Origin Fitness to bring you a special two part blog series in which we’ll explore some simple workouts for effective summer shredding.

Origin are the organisation who provide us with our excellent exercise equipment, and are specialists when it comes to creating innovative and exciting workout routines.

In part 1 of the blog, they look at a great training exercise you can do within the Functional Rig areas of our gyms.

It’s the time of year when everybody’s goal to get lean for the summer. Holidays, beaches, and barbeques are all places where we want to be looking our best in the sun (especially when bikinis and swimming trunks are involved). Alternatively, your motivation might just be keeping any summer holiday pounds at bay! Whatever your goals, we’re here to help.

We know the team at North Lanarkshire Leisure have been working hard making big improvements to the gyms you train in, with a focus on functional rigs, high intensity zones and improved strength training spaces. That’s why we’ve devised three workouts, one for each area of the gym. Each is guaranteed to shake up your training routine and help you on your way to that summer body you want.

This week's blog will focus on the Functional Rig workout, with next week's piece looking at the HIIT and Strength & Conditioning zone workouts.

Functional Rig Circuit:

Functional rig training is something a lot of facilities are making the most of due to the flexibility and variety in the sessions they can create.

Here is a circuit that is fun, quick and aims to hit your total body in each ‘functional’ movement pattern we ideally want to cover (movements such as squatting, lifting, pressing, pulling, rotating, smashing, gait and locomotion).

The Circuit:

30 seconds per station (total four minutes). With two minutes rest at the end. Repeat four times.

  • Med ball slams
  • Suspension assisted Squat Jumps
  • Kettlebell Farmers walk
  • Pull ups – try band-assisted or holds if you can’t perform full pull ups
  • Med Ball Russian Twists
  • Step ups with dumbbells
  • Dips
  • Battle rope single arm wave

Be sure to check back next week where we will look at the second part of our fitness blog.

Next week’s blog will feature two separate workouts which you’ll be able to put to the test in one of NL Leisure’s excellent venues.
