NLL LEGEND - DAVID LAUDER
NLL Legend David Lauder
David Lauder who recently celebrated his 65th birthday is an NL Leisure employee who has worked with us at the Tryst Sports Centre for over 40 years. We recently caught up with him to learn more about him and find out why he loves his job so much.
Read his story below:
Tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is David Lauder I am 65 years old and I have worked at the Tryst Sports Centre since 1980. You could say I am in with the bricks.
Tell us about your role and how you have worked with NL Leisure?
At present I work as a leisure attendant as part of a team that involves pool duties and setting up of equipment in the main hall and studio. I have also worked in various roles in the centre including swimming teacher, gym instructor, team leader and occasionally in the reception.
What do you like most about your role with NL Leisure?
What I like most about my job is the variety of work I do every day. I have worked with so many people over the years and have some great memories of this. I enjoy getting to know my customers, some of them have been coming to the Tryst for as long as I have been working there. It is funny seeing people that I taught to swim over 20 years ago that are now bringing their own children to swimming lessons.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I enjoy keeping fit. I am a keen runner. I have completed a few marathons (Glasgow in the 1980’s, more recently Edinburgh and Stirling) and half marathons (Great North Run, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling) over the years but now I enjoy going out for a run without the pressure of training for a race.
Any other comments/stories you would like to share?
In all my years working at the Tryst Sports Centre I am most proud of the fact that I have been part of a team that has saved 6 people’s lives. All my years of pool training and first aid courses, makes it all worthwhile.
All of us here at NL Leisure would like to say a huge thank you to David for his time and commitment to his work at the Tryst and on his excellent achievements.
