Shannon signed up to NL Leisure to take part in our summer shred programme and after seeing amazing results developed a love and passion for working out and has now lost over 2 stone. 

We caught up with her below to find out more about her journey. 

What prompted you to start your fitness journey?

I initially joined NL leisure last year to take part in the summer transformation. Despite my diet always starting on “Monday” my weight was going continually going up. I felt uncomfortable in my clothes and was very self conscious and as I had a holiday coming up I decided I needed to finally commit to making a change.

The thought of going to the gym and participating in any kind of exercise filled me with dread. I remember the morning of my first PT session I was so anxious that I almost cancelled, however CJ instantly put me at ease.

How has it impacted your life?

My life has changed massively since I started. As well as physical changes my mentality has completely changed. When I first started I was so unfit and was too embarrassed to try new classes or workouts. I was constantly telling myself and CJ that I couldn’t do it, but thanks to the time and effort that he has put in I am much fitter and now have the confidence to not only go to the gym on my own but to also try new things.

What are your goals going forward?

I’m still not where I want to be but I knew this wasn’t going to be a quick fix. I would like to continue to lower my body fat but more importantly I want to keep improving my fitness. I cannot wait to get back to the gym but I’m grateful for the online classes and hope that this will continue as it provides a greater level of flexibility.

What services at NL Leisure have you used and would recommend?

NL leisure really do have something for everyone, the instructors are very knowledgeable and all of the classes can be adapted to suit you. My favourite classes are Grit strength, Bootcamp and Power. CJ is an amazing PT, he is supportive and actively works with you to ensure that you always achieve your goal in the safest, most sustainable way, and he isn’t afraid to kick you into touch when necessary. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking to make a change. I have also been taking part in the online classes and have joined the NL online membership so that I can keep fit and keep up my motivation while in lockdown. 

We are so proud of Shannon and her dedication to fitness. We cannot wait to see you in the gym again when we reopen.
