Secondary School Athletics Championships
Over 2,000 young athletes from across North Lanarkshire ran, jumped and threw themselves into North Lanarkshire’s annual Secondary Schools Athletics Championships, organised by NL Leisure’s Sports Development team and staged at Wishaw.
Every high school in the area entered S1 to S6 male and female athletes in the three-day event which is the only track and field competition open to all secondary schools in the region.
The Championships have been an integral part of the school calendar for many years and have served as a launch pad for many young athletes who have gone on to compete at international level.
Former Scottish 400m International and teacher Carey Easton, said:
“Congratulations to all of the athletes who competed in this year's Secondary Schools Athletics Championships finals.
“It was fantastic to see so many young people enjoying the competition and some of the individual performances have been amazing.
“Thank you NL Leisure and the Sports Development team for all their hard work in organising the event - all the students had an amazing day.”
Blane Dodds, Chief Executive of NL Leisure was there to witness the action and said,
“It has not been a great summer so far but the weather today has been amazing and it has really added to a great event.
“I have been really impressed by the high standard and enthusiasm of all the athletes here today and I hope they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
