REACH Lanarkshire Autism
REACH Lanarkshire Autism is a local charity who provide help and support to families in Lanarkshire. The group bridges the gap following diagnosis and allows both families and individuals to lead empowered, inclusive lives. The organisation play a large part in many people’s lives and provide excellent support to over 270 families across Lanarkshire.
Recently the group and family members have been taking part in specialised swimming lessons at the Time Capsule, read about them below.
REACH have recently been taking part in some fantastic swimming classes at the Time Capsule (Coatbridge). REACH members within North Lanarkshire were extremely keen for the group to organise swimming lessons for their children as they often struggled to access mainstream swimming lessons due to sensory issues.
Kim Jones, Chair, of REACH Lanarkshire Autism, decided to contact Lynne McGregor, Aquatics Manager here at NL Leisure to see if there was something we could do to help.
Upon hearing about the great work that the group do, Lynne was adamant that she would be able to find a suitable solution to the problem that the group faced. With Lynne’s help the group were able to arrange swimming lessons as well as a family swimming session for the families – something which had been extremely difficult to do in the past.
Kim Jones stated that “The difference that this has made to our children, young people and their families has been amazing. The children are thriving and enjoying their lessons, which are tailored to meet their needs and our families are enjoying having access to the autism friendly swim session. This will be a huge help to them when they move on to access mainstream swimming sessions in the future”.
Kim continued "Everyone at REACH would like to say ‘thank you’ to Lynne and her staff for making this possible”.
Lynne’s great work coupled with those at REACH Lanarkshire Autism has ensured for a great success story and a brilliant partnership which we hope can continue for many years to come.
Well done to all who were involved in making this such a success!
