NL Leisure Sponsors Pearl Izumi Event
NL Leisure have teamed up with North Lanarkshire Council, CMS Windows and other partners to bring one of the world’s most demanding team cycling events to the streets of Motherwell.
On 26 May the town will rock to the sound of nine teams of the world’s top male and female cyclists going all out to win the newest stage of the Pearl Izumi Tour series.
Now entering its seventh season of action Pearl Izumi is the only British domestic cycling series to be broadcast nationally on terrestrial TV and there are high hopes the prestigious event will showcase everything Motherwell has to offer; bringing thousands of new visitors to the town and its surrounding area.
Building on the spirit of last year’s Commonwealth Games; it’s sure to be quite a party. Parallel races for amateur competitors and local school-children are planned as well as a host of other attractions to ensure there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.
NL Leisure are keen to use the opportunity afforded by the event to encourage more people to give cycling a try and the trust are challenging people to take a ‘spin in the gym’ to mark the occasion of the race.
Announcing NL Leisure’s sponsorship of the event Chief Executive Blane Dodds said:
“First and foremost this is a terrific event for Motherwell and we’re delighted to be supporting it.
“Until you’ve actually seen top-level cycling up close it’s hard to grasp the speeds involved and the skill of the athletes – spectators are in for quite a treat and as well as top-class competition the whole event will be a real family affair offering something for everyone.
“Of course, cycling’s a great low-impact sport and the truth is we could all benefit from getting on our bikes more often. Across our venues there are fitness suites and classes where you can take a spin without even hitting the road.
“If people are inspired by the Tour Series coming to town, I’d encourage them to visit the NL Leisure website and find out what’s on offer at their nearest venue.”
