NLL Legend – Pamela Bell
Pamela Bell is an exceptional lady with an abundance of personality and positive attitude towards life. Her story is nothing short of phenomenal. Pamela’s weight loss journey is undoubtedly inspiring which she hopes will inspire others to make a change and achieve their goals.

How long have you been a member of NL Leisure?
Around 3 years.
What venue do you attend?
Wishaw Sports Centre.
What motivated you to sign up for a membership?
I lost weight and was left with excess skin. I went to the doctors who told me that my only option would be surgery to remove it. I was then rejected for the surgery which really troubled me. This gave me the determination to do something about it. This is where Body Pump made the difference, especially to my tummy. Body Pump is by far my favourite class to go to. I also enjoy Body Pump. I go to classes around 4 times per week. Through toning and exercising, I have made a huge difference to my body without the surgery.
What do you utilise on your membership?
Mostly fitness classes. Once the gym was upgraded, I was also encouraged to try it. I got a tailored personalised fitness plan as a starting point which made a difference. The instructors were excellent and took into account my abilities and fitness level. They gave me a plan that was easy to follow and was achievable. The instructors are fantastic. They are so motivational which gave me more drive and determination.
Did you have a goal when signing up for the membership?
My goal was to reach my goal weight which I have achieved. I have gone from 18 stone 6lbs to 10 stone 2lbs. A total weight loss of 8 stone and 4lbs.
What was your main reason for starting your weight loss journey?
Both my parents had a heart attack. When I was younger, I was teased because my parents were overweight. My ultimate goal was my son. I didn’t want him to have the same experience. I wanted to be a healthy role model for my son. When my son was two, I became a childminder. At that time, I was still overweight and felt like I couldn’t fully do my job. Now I can with a healthy lifestyle.
Do you have any advice for something thinking of signing up for a membership?
Find your comfort zone. Find what works for you. Maintain a healthy diet along with your exercise to enhance your lifestyle. Once you start, you become addicted. If I can do it, then you can too. If I manage to inspire even one person, then I am doing something right. It is the little changes that make such a difference. Losing weight isn’t just the good part. Every part of your life improves. You have to want to do it, to make the change. I believe everyone has the belief within them to do it.
Any comments you would like to add?
The trainers and instructors have been fantastic and Wishaw Sports Centre has been welcoming. Without the drive and determination to succeed, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Life is good.
