Tell us about yourself and your job?
I am the Gym Manager of the Aquatec in Motherwell and Wishaw sports centre. I manage the gym and group fitness programmes for both venues.
What interested you in a career in the health and fitness industry?
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be involved in sports and fitness. At a young age I played football up to the age of 19 before I moved onto professional wrestling. Since I left school I always wanted to be a personal trainer. I studied sports development at university where I achieved a BA in sports development. While I attended university, I started to work within the Aquatec gym as a casual member of gym staff. I progressed and worked my way up to a full time position while continuing my fitness education with numerous courses. Included in these qualifications are level 2 gym instructor, level 3 personal trainer, GP referral level 4, obesity and weight management. I am also a trainer and assessor for people who want to become gym instructors and personal trainers. In my 13 years with NLL, I have worked as a gym instructor, personal trainer, group fitness instructor, gym manager and health and fitness manager. My main interest in health and fitness is to help people, whether it is helping the staff become better instructors or helping my clients reach their own fitness goals.
What are your hobbies?
My main hobby is more like a passion. On my down time I am a professional wrestler. I wrestle all over the UK on a regular basis, with a number of different wrestling companies. I have also wrestled in Ireland, Denmark, and the USA. My other hobbies include football and my own fitness regime which I enforce 5-6 times per week.
That’s all for this month’s ‘Meet the Team’ segment. Stay tuned for the next installment coming soon!
