Meet The Team - Lukasz Szalaj
This week we are delighted to bring you a new ‘Meet the Team’ segment! Lukasz works at the Tryst Sports Centre in Cumbernauld and is a lifeguard. Lukasz has been taking on extra work recently, completing jobs around the centre and has been nominated as the Tryst’s team member of the month. Well done Lucas!
We recently caught up with him and you can read his story below:
1. Tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Lukasz Szalaj and I’m 35 years old. I moved to Scotland from Poland in 2006, after I finished my University course. Initially I had only planned to stay in Scotland for five years. I had planned to work hard and save up some money for my wedding. However, the people were so nice and I was enjoying life so I decided to stay here!
2. How long have you worked with NL Leisure for?
I’ve worked with NLLeisure for around 8 years now, having joined in 2009. I joined as a part time member of staff, but after a few months I picked up a full-time role as a lifeguard.
3. Tell us about your role?
Previously, I was a Lab Technician but had decided to change my career. I worked as a lifeguard in Poland and missed the environment so decided that I wanted to take this up again. As well as my role as a Leisure Attendant, I often step up and cover shifts as a Team Leader and have also been doing some occasional work around the centre as a Handyman.
4. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m a father to my two year old daughter, and my wife is expecting our second daughter in a few weeks. This means I don’t really know what spare time is! Having said that, outside of work I am studying Electrical Engineering at Forth Valley College. I also quite enjoy doing some DIY in the house, and playing around with old motorbikes. Whenever I get the chance, I like to go fishing with my friends as well!
That’s all for this week’s Meet the Team segment! Be sure to keep an eye on our Social Media channels for more great content.
