Meet The Team - Lorraine McLaren

NLL Latest News

Meet Lorraine McLaren. A reception team leader based at Broadwood Leisure Centre. Many of you will know Lorraine as the bubbly receptionist with the welcoming smile. Lorraine has an extraordinary passion for her job and she goes the extra mile for her customers.

Lorraine is our new ‘Meet the Team’ member.

Tell us about yourself and your job?
My name is Lorraine and I am a mum of two grown boys and live in Cumbernauld. I am very easy going (hopefully) and always have a smile on my face, or so I am told. I am the reception team leader at Broadwood Leisure Centre.

What interested you in a career in the health and fitness industry?
After a career in hairdressing for many years I decided I needed a change. I got some casual work at the Iain Nicolson centre and another leisure centre.

I saw a vacancy for a receptionist within Cumbernauld and Kilsyth district council when they were building Kilsyth swimming pool. This is where I was first employed as a Receptionist. I worked there for 20 years and really loved it. I especially liked the fact it is a small venue, the customers got to know you really well and loved having a blether when they came in. I got offered a new position at Broadwood in 2015 as a Reception Team Leader which was a massive change from what I was used to, but it has a great vibe with wonderful facilities and a great team. I have also been a union steward for 6 years with Unison and I would like to think I can help anyone who needs it. I have met some really great people over the years and been told some great stories, especially from our older customers.

I like to hope that the customer journey our members receive from myself is friendly, welcoming and informative and I hope it encourages them to return again and again.

What are your hobbies?
I mostly enjoy walking, love listening to music and spending time with family and friends. I love to travel, however, I am not so keen on the flying. I got a Flying Lesson for my Christmas and feel a little bit better now and enjoyed my day in the cockpit.

Interesting Fact?
I have had tea and biscuits with Prince Charles, and we had a conversation about his boys, which was a bit surreal.

That’s all for this ‘Meet the Team’ segment. Stay tuned for more stories coming soon!
