Tell us about yourself and your job?
My name is Kate Fairley and I’m a proud mother of three and live in Coatbridge with my husband Ernie. I am the Sales Adviser within The Time Capsule but also cover Sir Matt Busby & Iain Nicholson Centre. I have been employed with the company since I was 17, making it over 30 years of service with NL Leisure. I am sure I’ve met many of our members through my varying roles including swimming teaching, sports coaching and receptionist/administration roles – you could say, I’m in with the woodwork!
What interested you in a career with NL Leisure?
My career began with North Lanarkshire Council, a good few years before the reformation to North Lanarkshire Leisure. I began my time as a lifeguard and swimming teacher in John Smith Pool. As an avid swimmer, I loved teaching children and adults alike to gain what I believe is such an important life skill. Having gained so much passion for health and fitness, I chose to take a short break away from full time employment to study sports therapy and fitness & health. Later I returned to full time employment as a receptionist at The Tryst Sports Centre which quickly led me into the membership team. I found a true passion for this role as I believe whole heartedly in the membership we offer due it allowing everyone in
North Lanarkshire to get fit and healthy at affordable prices. Now as a sales adviser, I love meeting new members and setting them off on their journey to a healthier lifestyle!
What are your hobbies?
I love spending time in the great outdoors whether that be walking, cycling, hillwalking or running. Where possible I’ll bring along my two dogs Isaac & Alfie. Isaac is a Patterdale Terrier and is strong as an ox. His (very) little brother Alfie is a Chihuahua and although he’s small he goes running and is a tough cookie who seems to think he’s actually a lion! As a loyal NLL member I also love spending time at group fitness classes: my favourites are Body Balance & Body Pump and act as the perfect way to break up my week while keeping fit. My other sporting passion is cycling and I own both a road and off road bike as I enjoy the challenge of both types of terrain. My biggest accolade to date was cycling from London to Paris for St. Andrews Hospice from which I managed to raise around £2,000.
That’s all for this ‘Meet the Team’ segment. Stay tuned for the next instalment coming soon!
