Kickstart United meet the Duke of Cambridge
Last Friday Our Kickstart United Team users attended a mental health and well-being football festival in Edinburgh hosted by the Scottish Football Association. Not only did they get the opportunity to play against other teams and get a picture with the Scottish cup they were also lucky enough to meet the Duke of Cambridge.
What is Kickstart?
Kickstart is a weekly football coaching session with a Scottish FA Qualified Coach for Integrated Addiction Services with joint access for mental health services.
This amazing programme is open to male and females 16years + and is currently being delivered in Airdrie, Cumbernauld (in partnership with Clyde FC in the community), Wishaw, Coatbridge, Motherwell and Bellshill.
Kickstart and the Pandemic
Unfortunately, due to the Pandemic and restrictions, from March 2020 till now, the kickstart group were only able to get together in person a total of 3 during this time.
We didn’t want to lose any momentum so throughout the year as we know how important it is to our participants recovery, so we engaged with them by delivering an online football programme which was made up of different exercises and drills to keep the players fit and active during this time.
We also made online video’s to send to participants on how to cook healthy meals for under £1 and each player was given a sports bag which included a face covering, water bottle, gloves, hat, stress ball and leaflets for information on support services they could access during this time.
What's next for the Kickstart team?
We are delighted to carry on this programme in 2021/2022 and the current participants are all very keen to continue with kickstart as it is an important part of their lives to aid with their recovery.
Everyone here would like to wish the Kickstart team luck for future games and and with their recovery,
