Hall of Fame
North Lanarkshire's first sporting hall of fame was launched on Monday 7th November at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility. Sporting heroes from the local area will have the chance to join the great sportsmen already in the hall of fame.
The launch of this prestigious project took place on Monday at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility and was a fantastic success. The event was supported by a number of sporting heroes including legends such as the former Scotland manager Craig Brown and ex-internationals Ian Durrant and Neil McCann. World boxing champion Ricky Burns was also in attendance to support the event.
Coverage of the event was captured by Live at Five and can be viewed here
Council leader Jim Logue and Sportscotland chief executive Stewart Harris joined the four heroes to launch the hall of fame on Monday.
Councillor Logue said: “It is important that councils recognise, record and celebrate the sporting achievements of young and old who live locally.”
WBA super-lightweight champion Burns added: “It is great to see local people recognised in this way. Ravenscraig is a top-class venue and will be the perfect place for young people to come and be inspired by the sporting heroes North Lanarkshire has produced.”
