Advent Abs winner - Patricia
Huge congratulations to our 2019 Advent Abs Winner Patricia Gillon.
Patricia used the Advent Abs programme to not only kick start her fitness journey but to help her transition into a new job!
She lost an amazing 3.5kgs and 2.5% body fat and gained a whole lot more confidence.
We caught up with her to find out about her motivations for starting the programme and how she found it.
Tell us a little bit about you, and why you decided to join the programme?
Exercising has been really important to me over the last few years. After leaving uni in 2014 I found that I had gained more than just a little puppy fat and I was seriously unfit. I knew very little about exercising properly and about dieting. I found very quickly that exercising was not only a great way to get in shape but was hugely important to me in dealing with mental health. Over the past few years I have worked hard to maintain my physical appearance which has also served a great purpose in terms of dealing with stress, anxiety and bouts of depression which I have been prone to, however this year after my holiday I struggled to get back into a good gym routine. My work circumstances changed and my main career goals became my priority and my routine became less rigid and I found that I was snacking more but on my feet less. A turning point for me was when my work trousers became tighter and I knew I had to kick start my fitness journey again. Having worked so hard to get into a size 12 in the first place I didn’t want to find myself getting any heavier. This coincided perfectly with the advent abs programme and I knew that it was exactly what I needed to motivate myself again.
What was your goal and did you reach it?
My goal was to slim down and feel comfortable in my work trousers again and I have definitely achieved that goal. I’ve built a great relationship with Jenna who has created a fantastic programme for me which has enabled me to be more confident in the gym on my own allowing me to try out new things and push myself to achieve my goals.
How has your 8 week journey impacted on your life for the better?
It has really kept me quite optimistic over what has been quite a challenging few weeks with starting a new job. It’s helped to keep my feet on the ground emotionally as I have transitioned into my new role and most importantly it has educated me on the different types of exercise that I can do and the different results I will achieve. It has also helped me get back into a routine where I enjoy going to the gym and don’t dread it!
How do you plan on continuing your new healthy outlook?
I’ll be continuing with regular gym sessions in the New Year both individually and with a PT. I am also going to integrate more gym classes into my routine as having been encouraged to give Metafit a try by Jenna I have found that this has been hugely beneficial in increasing my overall fitness.
Would you be interested in continuing PT or Nutrition?
I will absolutely be continuing PT sessions with Jenna. She has been a fantastic coach who always listens to exactly what you need and always pushes you to finish that last set! She provided me with varied and motivating programmes which have not only been a challenge but also enjoyable.
