Rugby

Fancy giving rugby a ‘try’?

From experienced players to toddlers, North Lanarkshire Leisure has something for everyone, no matter your ability level.

Rugby classes can be found in the following venues and cost from £3.10 per session:

Primary school programme: The rugby development team run the "Hygiene, Healthy Eating and Activity in Primary Schools" programme in partnership with the Foods Standard Agency to selected schools across North Lanarkshire. The programme see's pupils complete a workbook covering elements of food safety, bacterial facts and personal hygiene. This is coupled with 6 sessions of rugby activity where they develop their hand-eye coordination, evasive running and in some cases contact skills.
As well as the HHEAPS programme our team deliver a series of introductory rugby blocks across the schools network, allowing pupils the opportunity to experience what rugby as a sport can offer them.

Secondary school programme: Many secondary schools in North Lanarkshire benefit from the expertise and experience from our rugby team. Support ranges across the schools based on their individual needs and the time available for our staff to commit. It can involve delivery of contact sessions during the P.E curriculum, teacher and sports leaders/CSLA training courses and the coaching of school teams through after-school clubs.
On top of this the team offer a range of fixtures and festivals throughout the year that schools can sign up to. The main competitions include: Lanarkshire Cup at U14's and U16's, Brewin Dolphin U16s and U18's (Scottish Rugby led) and a new initiative staring this year for an S1/2 North Lanarkshire League.

Coach Education: We offer clubs/schools the chance to undertake a number of local updates on specific themes: Key National Themes, Set Piece, Specialist Skills etc. Details of these will be communicated to rugby contacts as they are coming up. We also deliver a Youth Coaching Course, targeting senior pupils and youth rugby players who show potential in becoming quality coaches. Lastly our team offer a number of Rugby Ready courses through August/September (annual mandatory requirements for all delivering contact rugby). 2015 will see the team running a Coaching Conference in one of our centres with a planned date in August.

Club Development: We support the development of the three rugby clubs local to North Lanarkshire.
