State of the Art Sports Facility on the way at Broadwood Stadium

In delivering on the North Lanarkshires' sports strategy to ensure that more people are more active more often, North Lanarkshire Council are constructing a new sport and leisure facility at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld (to the north of the stadium pitch and next to the gymnastics academy). Designed by jmarchitects and being built by Mansell Construction, this £8m state of the art facility and will be operated by North Lanarkshire Leisure Limited (NLL). Cllr. Jim Logue, Chair of North Lanarkshire Leisure said "this new facility is great news for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth and is due to open to the public in January 2010, just in time to capture those who have a new year resolution to get fit, stay active and healthy in the new year and new decade".


Designed to a high quality standard throughout and making the most of the outstanding views surrounding the building, the new centre boasts the following facilities for you to enjoy:


  • 4 badminton court 'multi-purpose' sports hall (with junkers sprung wooden floor)
  • Large soft play area, designed for babies, toddlers and older children including tables and chairs for parents to relax and enjoy the hospitality of the adjacent café area, dedicated party room and childrens' toilet facilities.
  • Café, relaxation and vending area
  • Dedicated baby changing facilities
  • Fully matted and dedicated martial arts studio
  • Meeting room available for hire
  • Large gym overlooking the stadium pitch and Kilsyth hills, kitted out with state of the art Technogym equipment (sole supplier to the Olympics), with dedicated gym staff and Membership Advisor to look after your fitness programme
  • Spin studio
  • Two large dance studios will accommodate an extension of our highly popular Group Fitness Class programme to Broadwood
  • Beauty treatment and therapy rooms
  • Lift access to both floors
  • First aid room
  • Good quality changing accommodation
  • Disabled toilets and changing facilities
  • Facility will complement the existing facilities for hire at Broadwood:
    • 2 third generation 7-a-side pitches
    • 4 third generation 5-a-side pitches
    • Full size 11-a-side third generation pitch


The new facility has good green credentials too, being mindful if its 'carbon footprint' it has been designed to use as much natural daylight as possible, reduce solar gain and has a wood burning biomass boiler funded by the Scottish government and the energy savings trust, ensuring a sustainable heat source for the facility.
