In delivering on the North Lanarkshires' sports strategy to ensure that more people are more active more often, North Lanarkshire Council are constructing a new sport and leisure facility at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld (to the north of the stadium pitch and next to the gymnastics academy). Designed by jmarchitects and being built by Mansell Construction, this £8m state of the art facility and will be operated by North Lanarkshire Leisure Limited (NLL). Cllr. Jim Logue, Chair of North Lanarkshire Leisure said "this new facility is great news for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth and is due to open to the public in January 2010, just in time to capture those who have a new year resolution to get fit, stay active and healthy in the new year and new decade".

The new facility has good green credentials too, being mindful if its 'carbon footprint' it has been designed to use as much natural daylight as possible, reduce solar gain and has a wood burning biomass boiler funded by the Scottish government and the energy savings trust, ensuring a sustainable heat source for the facility.
