Cumbernauld 10k 2012

Get on your marks for this year’s Cumbernauld 10k

This year’s Cumbernauld 10k event will take place on Sunday 9 September at Broadwood Stadium – and there’s a race for all ages.

Primary 5, 6 and 7 pupils will race over 1k, starting from 10.00, while S1 to S4 age pupils can compete in the 3k run which begins at 11.10am. And anyone over 16 can line up for the main 10k race at 11.00am.

For the first time, supporters of our charity partners, the Scottish Spina Bifida Association and Scottish Centre for Children with Motor Impairments, will have an opportunity to take part in a Victory Mile event. This allows young people affected by these conditions, their friends and family to support the event with a mile walk around the stadium.

This the sixth year of the 10k event which is organised by North Lanarkshire Council in partnership with NHS Lanarkshire, Campsies Centre Cumbernauld Ltd and North Lanarkshire Leisure Ltd, with support from Strathmore Spring Water and the Cumbernauld News and Kilsyth Chronicle.

During the event, there will be a host of free activities for families at the stadium, including face painting, football, golf and a bouncy castle and inflatable slide.

“Cumbernauld 10k is one of the biggest events in the North Lanarkshire calendar, with athletes from across central Scotland taking part,” says Council Leader Councillor Jim McCabe.

“It’s a popular event for elite athletes as well as novice runners, and the children’s runs are always strongly contested so it’s a fun event for everyone involved.

“This year we are hoping to raise more money for our two charity partners so we’re asking participants in the 10k if they would like to make a donation to these two very worthwhile causes. If anyone would like to be sponsored to take part, I know the charities would welcome your support which will help support children, young people and their parents across Scotland affected by spina bifida, hydrocephalus and cerebral palsy.”

If you sign up for the 10k before 1 August, entrants will enjoy an Early Bird discount on the entry fee. There are also discounts for Scottish Athletics and jogscotland members, and for residents of North Lanarkshire who are Access NL or Passport to Leisure members.

Pleas note that the entry deadline has been changed to 6th September...still time!!
