Learn to Swim Programme (children must be a minimum of 5 years old)
1. Novice Skills 30 minute class
2. Beginners 1 x 30 minute class
3. Bronze Skills 30 minute class
4. Improvers 1 x 30 minute class
5. Silver Skills 30 minute class
6. Improvers 2 x 30 minute class
7. Gold Skills 45 minute class
8. Developers 1 x 45 minute class
9. Platinum Skills 60 minute class
10. Developers 2 x 60 minute class
Levels 1 and 2 are for those with no or limited previous experience will be introduced to the pool environment. The main aim will be to develop confidence in the water by focusing on the underpinning watermanship skills, which are essential to future development. These include water familiarisation, breathing, submerging, buoyancy and controlled propulsion. The four competitive strokes will also be introduced at this early stage.
Levels 3 and 4 continue to develop further the basic skills of water confidence and stroke technique. The mastery of aquatic breathing will be a high priority within these levels. The gross motor skills of kicking and pulling will be the main emphasis during the stroke work.
Levels 5 and 6 involves the development of the co-ordination in respect of leg and arm action in the four strokes. Stamina will be increased along with the introduction of a wider range of aquatic skills.
Levels 7 and 8 is where the finer details of the four strokes, especially timing and co-ordination of breathing and arm action are developed.
Levels 9 and 10 water fitness is developed further and the stroke technique enhanced by the introduction of key drills. By the end of these levels your child will be prepared for movement into the club/competitive scene as well as having the elementary skills for the other disciplines.
